The best part of a visit to the beach is not always the time you spend on the sand. That’s generally the case in Puerto Viejo, Limón, on Costa Rica’s Caribbean coast. Although the beach and its sunrises are stunning, the town itself is just as important a part of any visit as the natural wonders. Puerto Viejo is laidback, colorful, and full of flavor—words that also describe one our favorite area restaurants, KOKi Beach.
It’s hard to miss the bright chairs and lights in the front of this beachside spot. Perfect for a relaxed happy hour, the patio is terrific for people-watching the varied crowd in Puerto Viejo. Feel like a drink on the beach? No problem, as KOKi has a comfortable section out back with a great view. But perhaps the biggest draw is the indoor section. Each evening, twinkling lights, luscious vegetation, and the occasional resident sloth turn the open floor plan into a magical tropical experience.
Of course, the food itself makes a visit to KOKi Beach all the more memorable. With the Caribbean at their feet, it is not surprising that the menu highlights seafood. Latin fusion cuisine with Caribbean touches make this restaurant an exciting choice for foodies. They also offer specialty cocktails for that unforgettable beach happy hour.
After your delicious KOKi meal, what’s better than the perfect Costa Rican coffee? Featuring Café Britt, the restaurant has all the espresso standards: cappuccino, americano, latte, cortado, and more. As part of their mixology offerings, they have also created espresso-based mixed drinks. We love the house Kokitini, which combines Baileys, Café Rica (coffee liqueur), Café Britt espresso, grenadine, and vodka, but you can also choose a classic Espresso Martini. No matter how you choose to end the meal, KOKi Beach is sure to be a Puerto Viejo favorite.
