Lucuma fruit is Peru’s culinary delicacy par none. Firm and aromatic, its orange-and-yellow flesh is similar to pumpkin or canistel with a rich, full-bodied, maple-like flavor. Café Britt covers bits of delicious lucuma fruit with the finest dark chocolate. One taste of this creamy, curious sweet and you’ll know why lucuma is called "The gold of the Incas".

An ancient fruit that remains a favorite today, lucuma is native to the cool highlands of Peru and grows best above 1,000 meters (3,280 feet). To taste fresh lucuma, visit Peru during harvest from January to April. Lucuma is an excellent source of fiber, vitamins and minerals. It contains a remarkable concentration of beta-carotene, niacin and iron. Extremely versatile, lucuma adds a curious, pleasing flavor to ice cream, pies, cookies, cakes, and desserts.

Being peruvian, I have been eating lucuma since I was a child, and there's no doubt that the best partner for this deliciously exotic fruit is chocolate. It's so great that it is actually not lucuma jelly, but dried lucuma, which keeps the taste of the fruit closer to the way it tastes fresh. If you guys liked this, don't miss the chance of trying lucuma mousse if possible.

These came as a marvelous surprise after the fruit jelly in the other chocolates. The freeze-dried lucuma is crispy to bite through, then the fruit flavour hits, melting in your mouth. The chocolate, as ever, is very good quality, and the perfect complement to the exotic fruity taste.

The taste of the fruit is not sweet, but has a unique quality of its own. The rich chocolate goes well with the lucuma. It is also very filling and is good for those who wish to cut back on their intake of sweets. A little goes a long way. Truly interesting.
