I had this coffee when I visited Costa Rica and now it is my very favorite. I order online and always have it in my pantry. Its so good to have anytime.
When pressed in fresh water and allowed to stem for just the right period of time, the flavors of the valcanic earth add a rich, solid taste to these beans. The coffee is mild enough to please the most sensitive of tastes, yet bold enough to stimulate the taste buds of the most veteran of coffee drinkers. The coffee is smooth going down and the taste is pure heaven. The aftertaste is almost non-existent, leaving only a pleasant smile of having enjoyed a coffee grown from the soil of volcanic earth and costa rican rains.
pleasant tasting, nice aroma
I love to save the POAS blend to drink like a fine wine on special occasions. It is a pleasure to savour on a weekend mornng before the busyness of the day has started. It is not a coffee to be rushed. Never once have I drank it and not thought of the beautiful countryside of Costa Rica.

My Recipe For Outstanding POAS Ice Coffee:
1) Use a Ball/Mason Jar (or similar) and add 12 oz. water
2) Add 5-6 tablespoons POAS
3) Let sit overnight on counter (room temp)
4) Sift through coffee filter in strainer over a 3+ measuring cup (makes approx. 300 ml - 1.5 cups)
5) Add 2 heaping tablespoons Splenda (or substitute)
6) Add equal amount of fat-free milk or water
Enjoy over ice!!
MMmmmmmmm... now I have to say that this is not my all time absolute fave coffee from Cafe Britt but it pulls up a pretty close 2nd. It has a great aroma, I love the moment its intoxicating scent hits me as I come down the steps in the morning. It has a great flavor and a smooth richness that I love! It is as if each sip takes me to far off places deep in the luscious Costa Rican rainforest.
Better than any alarm clock, waking up to this extreme coffee aroma takes second place only to that first sip. Not an early bird by choice, this is the coffee I can live with in the morning. Being a one cup a day kind of gal, it's got to be a great coffee and the Poas Volcanic Earth is at the top of my list. We discovered this coffee earlier this year after an early morning trip up to the Poas volcano. A 3 toed sloth hanging from a line by the side of the road paralled my sluggishness. Typically Poas is misty & foggy (like I am when I wake up) but the sun broke through and this is what this coffee does for me.
good morning coffee eazy to drink
Every time I grind the beans I want a cup!
This is one of the smoothest coffees I have ever tasted. I like to gift it as a gift to others who have never been to Costa Rica to entice them to visit and show them what they are missing. My family visited Poas on a misty day(which is a normal experience), but just as we were ready to leave, the sun came out. It was absolutely marvellous.

This is the first aroma of the day; the grinder wakes us at 5 A.M., and the scent draws us from bed. This coffee holds up well to cream, but tastes great black (if you like a strong flavor).
I live in Michigan and traveled to Costa Rica a few years ago for Vacation. I first purchased Cafe Britt coffee at San Jose Airport and i loved it. I recently bought a large order of coffee with most of the different types. I have to say that i loved them all but Poas is my favorite. It has to be the best coffee that i have ever consumed. I would recommend Poas to anyone who enjoys fine coffee. I can't wait for the next cup!!!!
I have tasted dozens of types of coffees and this is by far my favorite. The roast allows the full flavour of the coffee to shine through. It tastes great black or with cream. I have shared this with my friends and family and they all agree!
This is a wonderful coffee!!
I BOUGHT TWO BAGS OF THIS AT THE PLANTATION WHILE ON VACATION - SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT MORE. WAS SO GLAD TO FIND I COULD BUY IT ON LINE AND HAVE IT SHIPPED TO MY HOUSE.
I PLAN TO HAVE SOME IN MY FREEZER AT ALL TIMES.
I cannot wake in the mountains of Costa Rica, but I can enjoy the coffee. It is a wonderful buffer between sleep and greeting the day. It smells good, it tastes great and is just awesome. I recommend you treat yourself to it without additives and make it extra strong!

I first tried your coffee on a trip to Costa Rica. WOW is it better than anything I can buy at the local supermarket. I am now a coffee snob...I have it flown in from Costa Rica. Keep up the good work!
We tasted Poas variety while in Costa Rica, and fell in love with it. At home, we began using it in the french press, and found it was even better! This is an absolutely delicious coffee. We now give it as gifts to friends and family.
Poas starts the morning off right - it's a rich cup of coffee that conjurs visions of a misty morning at the volcano with friends. We brew it strong and smooth. I love Poas and knowing where it's grown. (Its sister, Terrazu is excellent too!) We plan to stock up on our next Costa Rica Rotary trip.

Friends came back from Costa with coffee and I got hooked. I can not drink anything else.
While visiting Costa Rica and Poas Volcano, I came across this coffee. By comparison to others, this coffee simply has the best flavor and aroma. What more do you need in a coffee?
What a way to start a morning!! Poas coffee from Cafe Brit/Costa Rica is my way to get my day off to a great start. I haven't had any other coffee but Cafe Brit for 3 years and other coffees are good, but Poas is my very favorite. Good Job.
I visited Costa Rica on businesss and toured the plantation! I have been addicted to the variety of Costa Rican coffee offered. I have ordered coffee for myself, friends and family and it is the only coffee I drink.
It let a very good odor in the house in the morning... Now, my spouse is drinking coffee !!!
will buy again
Both my daughter and I prefer Poas as our morning cup every day. Even though her roommate works at a popular coffee store and brings home their product... everyone in the house prefers Poas.. It has a pleasant taste without the acidity. I like it because I grind and brew into a carafe in the morning and it stays fresh for hours. It also makes a great Iced coffee for the afternoon. The only downside is I have to remember to order more when I get low!!
Love this to start the day....
We were on a trip to Costa Rica and brought some of this coffee home as gifts to our friends and family. Right away they were asking for more so now we give it as Birthday and Holiday gifts :) Its going to be great in the Christmas stockings!
We went to Costa Rica last year and were pleasantly surprised by the great coffee.
We should have brought back a case!
Poas is our favorite and makes a nice balanced cup of strong black coffee - just the way we like it.
After touring Cafe Britt outside of San Jose, Costa Rica last summer, we were offered several coffee samples. This coffee was particularly flavorful and my favorite of the day. I bought several bags to bring home with me.
I use this coffee in a automatic drip coffee maker. It's the best cup of coffee I've ever had. I love this stuff! To me it's perfectly blended and has a full body without being too robust. I would and have recommended this product to friends and family.
This is one of the best coffees I've ever had. It's the perfect combination of flavor, roast, and balanced acidity.
I was introduced to Cafe Britt coffee by a friend who returned from St. Martin with a bag of the Organic Blend and gave it to me. It was then decided to purchase a 20-bag package where the selection included all blends, except for the decaf ones. Whole bean was selected as the choice of type. He and I introduced other friends and relatives to Cafe Britt and now we all share a 20-bag package on a frequent basis. The choices are Poas, Dark Roast and Organic blends. We find, as others have attested to, that Cafe Britt blends are the best, and I have purchased many types of coffees from all over, both locally and on the web.Your product is always fresh. The aromas are distinct between each blend as is the taste and griding fresh beans fills the kitchen with a lovely aroma.[...] Getting a little taste of something extra in our orders is a very nice touch on your part when we order the "specials", i.e., macadamia nuts, salsa, chocolate covered coffee beans.
Best of the Britt Selections
Having been a coffee affectionado for over 30 years, I have tasted some of the world's best coffee. Up until my first trip to Costa Rica 3 years ago, I was a big fan of Wallinford Estate Jamaican Blue Mountain, the so-called "epitome" of coffees. But after tasting Cafe Britt Poas (AND the dark roast, AND the organic) I've changed my tune. This coffee is on an equal footing with even the best Jamaican. And considerably cheaper than the [$] Jamaican.Plus the added benefit of consistant roasts. Other coffee importers ship green beans to their U.S. distributors/roasters, so you are at their mercy as far as roasting quality. Since Cafe Britt not only grows and harvests the beans, their roasting facilities are constantly monitored to guarantee the proper perfect roast. Add to that that the grean beans are scrutinized prior to roasting for color, size, and the most important "dry-grass" fragrance, and you have the perfect coffee.I use a Technivorm brewer, one of only two in the world certified to brew coffee at the desired 203 degrees, using only filtered water. I no longer purchase coffee anywhere other than directly from Cafe Britt. Whenever we have a dinner party at anyone else's house, they insist I bring the coffee.I am not affiliated with Cafe Britt in any way, but just consider myself an "amature expert" in the area of coffee.
I buy a mixed box of coffee (all from Costa Rica) but this particular one is the one I enjoy the most. Since I visited the county, I have been unable to bring myself to drink coffee from anywhere else.
We have used Britt Caffee products exclusively for over 10 years in our household. There is no better coffee to us but Poas - volcanic soil really makes a huge difference! We not only brew it every day but also use a bag or two for gifts to the ones that know and apreciate speciality coffee. It is very easy to convert them on Britt path! Thank You Britt Caffee!
This coffee is great. I love the aroma and it has a good strong flavor which is what I look for...I tend to brew my coffee stronger than most, and it works out well with this bean. Tastes great with a little sugar and cream in the cup, however, I've had it solo and it was good that way too. Overall, its just a great coffee and I'd recommend it to anyone...you may not like it as much as I do, but I sincerely doubt that you'll dislike it. Cheers!!
This is my savor-every-drop coffee I usually reserve for Saturday and Sunday mornings. It is so pleasing to the senses; you couldn't be disappointed. It is not at all bitter, and it has won over every coffee drinker in my extended family. It is truly worth a try.
Purchased in Sarchi during a shore tour on our Panama Cruise. One of the highlights of the trip. I grind my own beans and this is the best I have ever purchased. Flavor, aroma, feel in the mouth, aftertaste. I really like the roast. I will definitely be ordering this one.
PS also picked up a couple others that I am waiting to try.
Got a package of this as a gift and was blown away. The most unique and flavorful coffee I've ever had. Strong, but not at the expense of flavor. Great as drip coffee, an Americano, or even straight Espresso. Don't miss it.
I ordered a case of this and the Organic Shade Grown and sent it back home from Costa Rica to give as gifts for my friends. I got so many compliments and thank yous raving about the coffee. All my friends work in the restaurant industry so they are tough to please. Definitely a good bang for the buck and better than wasting time trying to find the right knick-knack or T-shirt for everybody.

We bought a wide selection of coffe from Cafe Britt and while they were all great, this one was exceptional! Loved it!
My son visited Costa Rica and brought me a bag of this coffee-it is delicious! I have recently purchased 6 bags via your online site.
I can't drink anything else, because nothing else compares.... oh wait, nothing else compares except cafe brit's decaf! this is the best coffee ever! kudos cafe brit!
All of your coffees are very nice. I particularly like the Poas blend. It reminds me of my vacation in Costa Rica - where we enjoyed great coffee every day. Now, back in New York, I can start each day like I'm on vacation!
I've been drinking Cafe Britt non-stop since my first visit to Costa Rica in 1995. This newer introduction to Britt's lineup is exceptionally deep and earthy in taste, and instantly brings back fond memories of my visits to the country. My girlfriend (also a coffee lover) considers this the best she's ever tasted, and would likely kill me if we ever ran out. I highly recommend it (Tres Rios and Tarrazu are equally exceptional, so get those, too), and it will turn you into a coffe snob after the first cup forever.

After visiting your beautiful Country and falling in love with the people and your coffee, I am hooked. Whether you ice the coffe, drink it straight or with additives it is special. Deep coffee aroma, balanced smooth taste and the bean is so fresh and juicy with oil, there is a residue left in the grinder. Made fresh in the morning or after dinner in the evening it is always a special treat with taste explosions of goodness.
Poas beans are rich and velvety just like the luxurious volcanic soil from which they grow, resulting in a silky smooth brew that is satisfying - yet it leaves you wanting just one more cup to savor the clear, perfect coffee experience just a bit longer.
I take my coffee with sugar and organic whole milk, and make iced coffee during the summer months.
The only "negative" about this coffee is that it makes me want to go back to Costa Rica, where I first purchased Poas beans.
While on a business trip a few years ago, I met a young man from Costa Rica. He had brought some Cafe Britt coffee chews. I loved them, so I looked for a website to see if I could order more. I also ordered a selection of coffes to try. My wife and I decided that Poas Volcanic Earth was the only coffee we would drink from that point on. I buy 40 bags at a time and hand out several for friends and family to try, many of whom are customers now.
I received my first bag of Café Britt from a friend who had been to Costa Rica fishing. I am a skeptic when it comes to coffee and was loyal to a well known North West U.S. brand. I was hooked on the first cup. This coffee is great in a drip maker but is even better in a French Press. I purchased a twenty bag assortment and can’t wait to try them all. [...] GREAT COFFEE!
I have coffee with light cream and a bit of sugar. My wife with light cream only.
Neither of us cares much for S***bucks - too strong tasting. We both do like Tim Hor***'s but I believe it's only available in Canada. Apparently a lot of people agree because the morning lineups are always around the block, at all locations.
We were in Costa Rica and I decided to bring a bag of coffee home with us as a souvenir if nothing else. I described the taste we were looking for and Poas Volcanic Earth was recommended. They were bang on!
You have to understand, my wife is extremely resistant to change. She won't even try different once she's found something she's happy with.
After having tried 'my' new coffee, my wife has now found "absolutely the best coffee she's ever had" and just cannot leave the house in the morning without her cup of coffee. If this doesn't convince you to at least try it, I also love it and a number of friends who drink it black also totally agree that it's really good. I might even try it black one day. I'll report back.
It's similar to our favorite franchise coffee but it somehow has more flavor without being more bitter or stronger tasting. And no lineups.....
My second cup of coffee often goes cold (well, cool at least) while I work. It's still really good at that point. Apparently that's one way to tell a good coffee from inferior - something I learned in Costa Rica. I'm impressed.
Obviously we're ordering more.
I loved this coffee. It's bold yet smooth. Wonderful flavor in the morning or after dinner. Some of the other CR coffees I have tried have been too week for my taste, but the Poas was just right.
This coffee is good anytime of day. I love the richness and body. The taste lingers after a sip. One of the best coffees I've had the pleasure of drinking.
Had my first cup in Costa Rica. What a suprise. I was officially a loyal ****bucks patron. Haven't walked thru the door since. Nice big flavorful coffee but smooth and roasted to perfection.
My first Cafe Britt coffee was purchased in the jungle while I was on a "zip-lining" excursion. I wanted a souvenier and love coffee so I thought "Ya,right, this will tase good- I bought it in the jungle from someone selling it from a stand. Well I can keep the keep the sack it came in and put it in my scrap book." When I got home and tasted the coffee, I was blown away. I am a coffee SNOB, and this was the best coffee I had ever had. I looked it up online and was pleased I could order it- so I did and tried other varieties too. All are great. No acidity and the best coffee taste - that lasts more than 10 minutes - after being made. I ordered the Peru also and can't wait to taste it! I will be introducing this to family and friends. Great christmas gifts!
Waking up in the morning to sometimes below 20 degree weather and smelling the Poas brewing in the coffee maker is quite a blessing. We live in the mountains and so on those cold, snowy, "teeth rattling" mornings and some evenings being able to taste a little of Costa Rica is wonderful. After visiting the coffee plantation in March 2007 we were hooked. We immediately joined your CLP upon our return and have been blessing our coffee pot and the coffee pots of freinds and family ever since that time. It was an experience we won't forget and hope to revisit soon.
We traveled to Costa Rica and were introduced to Cafe Britt while we were there and have been ordering it ever since (about 4 years now). We have tried a variety of your coffees and have truly enjoyed the experience. Our favorite one right now is the Poas Volcanic Earth (we always buy whole bean). It has a fabulous, rich flavor without being too strong or bold. I can hardly ever find coffee that doesnt hurt my stomach, but due to the low acidity of Poas, it never causes a problem! The only thing my husband and I would change, is the packaging - it always reguires scissors to open vs being able to pull it open. Hope to visit again someday, touring the plantation is wonderful! We have shared this coffee with many friends and family and will continue to do so! Thanks for a GREAT product!!
Upon returning from a trip to Costa Rica and loving the Britt coffee, I purchased a case, the first time I have ever done that. Everyone I love got a package of Britt coffee for Christmas instead of the homemade cookie/candy tray. They loved it more!
We enjoy many Cafe Britt coffees, but Poas is the simply the best -- maybe the perfect coffee.
We were first introduced to Cafe Britt's Dark Roast when we visited Costa Rica eight years ago. We recently tried Poas and we enjoy it very much. We usually buy some of both - it is hard to decide which we like better.
I thoroughly enjoyed the rich bold taste of this coffee especially after my recent trip to Volcan Poas !!
If you like a smooth & mellow coffee, Poas is it!

I am a migraine sufferer and my single worse food trigger has always been coffee. Often, even the smell can trigger a headache. However, Costa Rican coffee IS different. After touring Cafe Britt - with no ill effects, I succumbed to temptation and drank some coffee - wow! I was so impressed that I had 2 twenty bag orders shipped to my home and have been drinking it daily ever since. The Poas is my favorite, made strong, and taken black. It is so exciting to be able to enjoy coffee again! I will soon need to place another order. Cafe Britt is a winner! This was truly a lifestyle discovery!
This coffee starts my day off right, and brings back my wonderful memories of visiting Costa Rica. It's robust just enough, and has a smooth finish.
