5.0 Wonderful

by Webduck27 from Tallahassee,fl on Jan 14, 2009

I love this coffee! I'm not sure if it's my favorite, because I love so many of Cafe Britt's coffees, but it is at the top of the list. When you first open the bag the aroma is irresistable. The flavor is amazing. I have bought this for friends and family and everyone loves it!

4.0 Excellent Cup!

by Gk from Fort Lauderdale, Fl on Jan 14, 2009

The Poas Volcanic is an excellent cup of coffee. Very rich, not too bitter, with a good substantial coffee taste. Like a good pinot noir, you can taste the volcanic earth from which it came...so it does have an "earthy" element to it. I couldn't think of anything really negative about it...it was all good!

5.0 A perfect coffee for a lazy morning

by Sheena Queen Of The Jungle from White Rock, Canada on Jan 14, 2009

Rich and bold without the bitterness of a dark roast. I brew it on weekend mornings in a french press. It pairs perfectly with a big breakfast!

5.0 Costa Rica in a Cup

by Cammy The Food Enthusiast from New Orleans, La on Oct 30, 2008

Ever since traveling to Costa Rica and visiting Cafe Brit a few years ago, I only drink their coffee. Two or three times a year I order large shipments of the whole bean product. Every morning, I grind fresh grounds. Most often, I use an automatic drip system to save time. However, on those days when I can thoroughly endulge, I use my pour over/drip basket. The crisp smell, the drip-drop sound and the hot rising steam, allow me to journey back to a cool afternoon looking into the cloudy, tranquil depths of the Poas volcano. Its flavor is unlike any other coffee, in that, it is smooth and not bitter or acidic. The aftertaste leaves you with a silky continuation of the original bold flavor. It can be consumed with or without sugar, as both ways are wonderful. Also, the scent of the beans is intoxicating. You will not believe the difference in just smelling the whole bean form- there is no comparison. Sweetness and warmth radiate from the beans. There is absolutely nothing I would change about this product.

Product Detail

Misty ecosystems and fertile soil. Altitude and legend. The conditions that produce our Poas Volcanic Earth coffee have been nurtured over the millennia on the slopes of Costa Rica’s most-visited active volcano. This is the choice of connoisseurs. The changeable, volcanic climate produces a complex coffee with surprising taste subtleties.

Roasted dark, our Poas has an enticing aroma and sweetness when hot. As it cools, hints of earth and lemon emerge. Each sip produces the same exhilaration as a lucky glimpse of the volcano’s deep-blue crater lake.

  • 100% Arabica SHB (Strictly Hard Bean).
  • Kosher certified.

Coffee Connoisseur

The aroma arouses your senses even before the cup touches your lips. Your journey has begun to the edge of Costa Rica’s active Poas Volcano. Nature’s volatility — which played a key role in creating this lushly fertile landscape — also helped give birth to the exceptional coffee of this Central Highlands region.

While steam rises from your cup, reminiscent of the active crater, pay homage to the smoking mountain that for millennia has spilled precious minerals into the surrounding land creating extraordinarily fruitful soil. Your palate is not dreaming. A touch of the smoky, volcanic soil has imparted its flavor into the coffee beans and is deliciously juxtaposed alongside fruity flavors and a bit of bright lime.

Unlike the unpredictable mountain climate that produces these select beans, the Café Britt Poas Volcanic Earth will consistently provide a complex, aromatic cup.
