Coffee Connoisseur
Like many of the best inventions, the French Coffee Press seems to have resulted from an accident. Legend has it that around the mid 1800s, the serendipitous incident happened on a hillside when a Frenchman forgot to add his coffee to his water before boiling it (the usual method.) Improvising, he tossed the ground beans in just after the water had boiled. After the beans rose to the top, he used a piece of screen to press them down. The accidental inventor took his first delicious sip and knew it was a new beginning for all coffee lovers to come.
The design of the French Coffee Press as we know it is attributed to an Italian designer who used a glass jar much like a laboratory beaker and fitted it with a plunger and filter to press the beans to the bottom.
French Coffee Presses have become an inseparable ally of any gourmet coffee lover. It is Café Britt’s recommended brewing method because it produces the most rich and creamy brew with abundant coffee flavor. The reason it is superior is because coffee oils are not trapped in a paper filter nor burned in a percolator. The ground beans are left to float up through just boiled water lazily and form a rich, thick brew that reflects the coffee bean’s aroma, flavor and true taste.
