Most botanists cite the South Pacific islands as the original home of the coconut tree. Over the centuries, like a message in a bottle, the coconut floated across vast waters and took root on tropical lands where it washed ashore. In Costa Rica, you will find both wild and cultivated coconut trees on both coasts where they have become an important part of the local agriculture.
The coconut tree hides its edible treasure inside a thick husk.
