Walter Ferguson: Dr. Bombodee
With an exuberance that transcends his 84 years, Walter Ferguson only recently began to spread his music beyond the boundaries of his beloved Cahuita and the south Caribbean towns that inspire his calypso tunes. In Dr. Bombodee, Ferguson muses about the effects of the computer on the laid-back Caribbean lifestyle; revives once-forgotten songs like “Carolyne,” “One Pant Man” and “Bugaloo;” and pays homage to the traditional sounds of Jamaica in "72 Weeds".
The Essence of calypso is humor and rhythm. A unique composer in his genre, Walter Ferguson relates the life of the little towns along Costa Rica's Southern Caribbean, with characters that pass from one calypso to another, like comic strips.
