La Orquesta de la Papaya

A border-bridging meld of ethnic sounds, the Orchestra of the Papaya is perhaps the most interesting musical experiment on the Central American isthmus. On this disc, the drums of Honduras’ Garífuna Indians pound a rhythm behind the Panamanian country violin, the large earthen jars of Guatemala and the woody marimbas of Nicaragua. Recorded live during a series of concerts in San José, this collection of both traditional and contemporary music is a completely new musical experience.

The Garífunas drums, Panama's farmer violin, Guatemalan tinajas and Nicaraguan marimbas are united in the "Orquesta de la Papaya", the most interesting musical experiment of the isthmus.

Recorded in a series of live concerts, in San Jose, Costa Rica, in this disc, Central America celebrates the encounter of the folk and contemporary music, offering something unpublished to the world.
